Bar1 is situated at 1 Tunstall Road, in the heart of Sunderland city centre. A site which has always appealed to a broad age range, we have created a venue with a relaxed atmosphere and a dedication to delivering musical quality, from both local DJs and live music. Bar1 is a relatively new bar which has purposely set out to make a statement and example of itself; aiming to lead the way and bring about a change for the better in the Sunderland entertainment industry. Not content to settle for being simply another run-of-the-mill bar, Bar1 is committed to providing the cream of local and touring talent. For example, Mondays host local and touring Jazz quartets. Thursday offers live music, performed both acoustically and in full band form by local musicians. Friday nights are compered and DJ'd by John Mitchell, the night consisting of local bands interspersed with the finest soul and rock 'n' roll. Saturdays also feature live music, plus DJ sets from local talent all pulled together by local musician Kev Douglas.

Since opening in August 2009, Bar1 has hosted a number of feature events including international DJs such as Graeme Park and Allister Whitehead and many one-off events such as Sunderland AFC Legends Evenings and Wine Tasting Evenings.
